War -- nobody likes it. But in our case, the war was imposed on us by the Serbian regime, which intensified its repression of us.
In the '90s, [Serbian president] Milosevic brought in the military and police to rule Kosovo. All Albanians working in the public sector were dismissed from their workplaces. I was dismissed, too, and I left Kosovo and went to Germany and stayed there until January 1998, when I returned to Kosovo voluntarily and joined the KLA [Kosovo Liberation Army] to defend my people and my country. My brother had already joined the KLA.
